The nine-ft. and the 8-{ft.foot} tables are the exclusive sizes that are formally recognized for tournament pool gaming by the World Pool Billiard Association.
The pockets of the billiards table are available in either in plastic or leather. Various tables can have pockets made out of leather to contain the balls. While the coin-operated pool tables in pool pubs and bars usually have troughs built into the table to deliver the balls to one side of the table.
The bed of the pool table (as enforced by the WPA for pool game play) has to be comprised of slate that is 1" dense. Pool tables for private use may be fewer than 1" thick.
