Paris is a magical and romantic city that has a long history and is rich in arts and culture. There are so many wonderful things to see and do here whether on a short weekend break or a day trip. Being just 14 miles from the center of Paris, one hour from Brussels and just 10 minutes on the fast train to Disneyland, one can easily see why Paris is such a popular destination for travelers wanting a short break. Once in the city itself it's easy to get around using the public transport system. You can use buses, the Metro, and trams. Taxis and private car hire services are also plentiful.

Eiffel Tower- The Eiffel Tower is one of the most recognised monuments in the world. All the images in the world cannot compare to the real thing. You can dine at the Altitude 95 restaurant on the first floor. If you are looking for a more upscale dining experience then visit the Michelin-starred Jules Verne restaurant on the second floor. When in Paris you really must pay a visit to the Eiffel Tower and not just view it from afar.
Centre Pompidou- If you love modern art and architecture you have to visit the Centre Pompidou. It is more than a mere museum. It is a place dedicated to the display and exploration of modern art and contemporary conceptualisations. You can find exhibitions, displays and celebrations of all art forms including theatre, music, film and literature. President Georges Pompidou was the inspiration behind the museum. He envisioned a cultural centre focused entirely on contemporary creations. One of the most distinctive architectural designs around, the building was designed by Renzo Piano.
As the exhibits at the Centre Pompidouare always changing, a new experience awaits the visitor each time. There are three bookshops that have collections on just about any type of art form. You can also buy souvenirs from the gift shop which is more of a design boutique full of fun and funky items. You can dine at the Georges, which is on level 6, while enjoying panoramic views of Paris. On leaving the museum and the centre there is still plenty to see. On the pavements outsidethe building you will see sculptures and various street art. You will certainly find the experience a memorable one.
Louvre Museum- The Louvre Museum is probably the world’s most famous art museum. Leonardo da Vinci's "Mona Lisa" is kept here. The Louvre, Europe's oldest museum, was founded in 1793. From ancient Egyptian artifacts to Islamic art, the range of exhibits on display in the museum is richly diverse.
This is a fascinating place that would take you weeks to explore the whole thing. It is in fact inside the Louvre Palace, which was once the seat of the French monarchy. There are eight themed departments which hold no less than thirty-five thousand pieces of artwork. In the permanent collections you can see masterpieces by Da Vinci, Vermeer, and Rubens. They also have temporary exhibits that highlight particular movements or artists.
Arc de Triomphe- A climb to the top of the Arc de Triomphe will give you an excellent view of Paris. It stands at a height of just over fifty metres! Napoleon Bonaparte was the inspiration behind this monument that gives a visitor a great scenic view. In 1806 Napoleon wanted to build a monument to commemorate his own military genius and his army. To Parisians, it is now a symbol of general triumph. Bastille Day celebrations are held here and the Tour de France finishes here. The famous First World War memorial, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, can be found at this historical site, as well as the eternal flame which also commemorates the fallen that were never identified from both world wars.
You need to be fairly fit to undertake the climb to the top - it takes a bit of work. A total of two hundred and eighty steps need to be climbed to reach the top, but the view is worth it. As one of France's most recognisable symbols and architectural icons, this monument is well worth a visit.
Musée d’Orsay- The Musée d’Orsay has one of the largest collections of sculptures, paintings, and art pieces produced between 1848 and 1914. Showcased here are many outstanding works of the early modern era. Inside you can view works by artists such as Degas, Monet, Van Gogh and Ingres. Everything from neoclassicism, impressionism and art nouveau is covered in the permanent collections here. Anyone with an interest in the beginnings of modern art simply must visit this amazing museum.
