Help?! Changing Table safety question.?
My son will be turning 1 on 4/30/09 and I have another little boy due 6/25/09. I am planning on putting my oldest boy in his Toddler Bed soon at night because he already naps in it fine during the day. I am worried though that he will get out of bed while I am sleeping and empty The Changing Table baskets, try to climb up the shelves, and that he may get hurt. I am wondering if anyone knows of any kind of safety covering or something we could get for The Changing Table shelves? Anyone have 2 children this close together? What's your advice?

Age 1 is too young for a youth bed at night. Even during the daytime, I'd advise some kind of safety rails if he's very active in his sleep.
The changing table - and any other furniture in his room - should be anchored securely to the walls or to the floor. True story: shortly after I moved into my current home, a woman living one block from me was charged with negligent manslaughter because while she was in the yard her young son pulled a bureau over on himself and was crushed and died. You do NOT want to risk harm to your children.
If there is a closet in his room, why not put the changing table in the closet? Then you can keep the door closed when it isn't in use and put a child safety latch on the knob. His clothes would be short enough to be hung above the table, so you wouldn't lose any closet space. And, you could put casters (wheels) on the changing table so you could wheel it out of the closet for use if you weren't comfortable standing in the closet door to use it. The baskets could go on the closet overhead shelf if you're concerned about keeping them in the table.
